Anger Management in Essendon & Moonee Ponds

logo-icon

Anger is a normal and natural emotion that can signal when something feels unfair, threatening or frustrating. However, when anger becomes overwhelming, difficult to manage, or leads to conflict, it can begin to affect relationships, work, family life and overall wellbeing.

At The Victorian Psychology Clinic, we provide anger management therapy for adolescents and adults in Essendon, Moonee Ponds and via telehealth. We support clients who may be struggling with irritability, anger outbursts, ongoing frustration, difficulty expressing anger effectively, or patterns of conflict that are affecting daily life.

It is also important to distinguish between anger and aggression. Anger is an internal emotional experience, while aggression refers to behaviours that may occur in response to anger. Therapy can help people better understand their triggers, regulate emotional responses, and express anger in safer and more constructive ways.

How anger develops: The activation-to-deactivation process

Anger often develops through a sequence of emotional, physical and behavioural responses. A trigger may lead to rising tension, changes in thinking, and a strong urge to react. For some people, this process happens very quickly, making it hard to pause before responding.

When anger is not well understood or managed, it can lead to outbursts, ongoing resentment, shutting down, or patterns of behaviour that create difficulties in relationships and day-to-day life. Learning to recognise the early signs of anger can be an important first step in building more effective regulation strategies.
