Eating Disorder Therapy in Essendon & Moonee Ponds

Eating disorder therapy may help with:
- understanding patterns around food, body image and exercise
- reducing distress related to eating, weight, shape or appearance
- building more flexible and sustainable coping strategies
- supporting regular eating and reducing unhelpful eating disorder behaviours
- improving emotional regulation and self-compassion
- strengthening motivation for recovery
- supporting communication with family members, carers or other supports where appropriate
Depending on the person’s needs, therapy may draw on evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders, Family-Based Treatment for young people with eating disorders, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness-based strategies and relapse-prevention planning.
Where appropriate, psychologists consulting at VPC may also work collaboratively with GPs, dietitians, psychiatrists and other treating professionals to support coordinated care.
