VPC provides ADHD, autism and cognitive assessments for children, adolescents and adults. Assessments are designed to help clarify a person’s strengths, challenges and support needs.
Assessment options include ADHD assessments, autism assessments and cognitive assessments, sometimes known as IQ assessments. Following assessment, clients receive a comprehensive report with tailored recommendations to support next steps at home, school, work or in therapy.
ADHD Assessments
An ADHD assessment at VPC is a comprehensive evaluation completed by a registered psychologist with training and experience in the assessment of ADHD.
Key components of an ADHD assessment may include:
- An interview,
- Standardised questionnaires,
- A cognitive assessment, where clinically indicated,
- Relevant information from other sources, such as parents, teachers, partners or other supports, with the individual’s consent.
An ADHD assessment aims to understand a person’s developmental history, current symptoms, strengths, challenges and how these may affect daily functioning. The psychologist uses this information to determine whether the person meets diagnostic criteria for ADHD.
Following the assessment, the psychologist may provide recommendations such as psychoeducation, therapy strategies, school or workplace supports, and referral to other health professionals where appropriate.
Please note that a psychological assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis or medication. Medication can only be prescribed by a medical practitioner, such as a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
VPC currently offers ADHD assessments for individuals aged 10 years and over.
The assessment process usually involves four appointments and a comprehensive written report. Assessment fees are payable at the time of each appointment.
